From the First Sight – Evolution of Perception in Human Society

October 25, 2012 § 2 Comments

There are, perhaps, two main factors influencing the process of development of human society – information and communication, and nowadays both of them are rapidly changing. Written text as the way to transfer data and news becomes outdated – we read less and are more interested in photographs, comics, pictures and posters instead. This switch to video form of thinking and perception has both its advantages and disadvantages.

A social network, which occupies the third place in spread and popularity after Facebook and Twitter is Pinterest. Pinterest allows a user to create a collection of images divided into theme groups. The communication between the users is minimal; the friendship is based only on the similarity of aesthetic perception. The words in Pinterest plays insignificant role as this social network presents the exchange of purely visual information. This tendency can be noticed in Facebook and other social networks as well, as virtually-oriented blogs are the most popular ones. The post or article without a picture will hardly attract the reader’s attention.

Why Stereotypes Are Not Always Good

September 23, 2012 § 1 Comment

To have a definite opinion upon this or that situation is useful and may help you to resist making a mistake in the most cases. But a few people are aware of the fact that developing one’s definite opinion sometimes goes beyond any sensible reasons and acquires rather weird form.

Lat us imagine a common situation. A girl is being brought up in a single-parent family. Her mother may suffer from numerous fixations and have a lot of settings against men. Her child’s psychics soaks these ideas easily and as a result of this the girl will see the world through a pile of stereotypes that she has inherited from her mother. Perhaps she won’t grow up in a closed bluestocking as her mum was but she is likely to develop an odd attitude towards men. The distortion of objective reality will make her to act like a victim or careless person.

Fraternities and sororities.

September 6, 2012 § Leave a comment

The tradition of joining fraternities and sororities has been widely criticized. Is it really worth joining brotherhoods or sisterhoods coming through odd and sometimes really weird secret rituals? Well, some people think that this useless tradition is absolutely absurd. Former participants rarely share the secret rituals they had to come through even though some of them also criticize the very idea of joining those communities. Participants of the closed door communities have to pay installments to be a part of the community. For the first time participants feel excited when they have been admitted to the community. They meet new people who share secrets only with them. Well, it seems to be interesting indeed. At the same time skeptics wonder why do the participants have to pay money to be members? In fact it means that participants pay for friendship. They pay for loyalty and secrets. Well, the adherents justify the membership fees. They try to assure that those money could help if one of the members needs them just in case. They even organize funds to donate the money they manage to raise. As the matter of fact the money they raise are wasted. As the rule participants waste money buying alcohol and some illegal stuff just to have fun hanging out along with the other members in frat houses.

Quite often teachers of the college and students who are not participants of the fraternities and sororities accept these frat houses as the places where frats and sorority girls have parties and simply drink. Members are also obliged to pay money for housing services. As you can see being a member of fraternity could be costly. So think it over if you can pay regularly several hundreds bucks to be a part of the community.
