July 27, 2012 § Leave a comment

In the basis of every type of business you want to launch should be some interesting and, what’s more important, original idea. You should occupy your own niche on the market with the help of new product or new way of manufacturing. Some ideas may seem odd and even crazy from the first sight, but you would be surprised to know how successful they have become. So, do not be afraid to use the power of your imagination and ignore people who say your idea for business is too strange to bring benefit. Get inspired by the list of businessmen who became well-known due to their belief in their dream.

  1. The Snuggie, or the other name of this invention, slanket. Probably you have already understood the purpose of this thing – it is a sleeved blanket which warms you up and do not restrict your ability to use your hands as they protrude from this odd stuff. Of course, you may say that there is no use in snuggies as you have sweaters and robes, but sometimes things do not need to be practical, it is enough if they are funny. For a year since 2008 till 2009 twenty million Americans became happy owners of snuggies. Each snuggie costs between 10 to 20 dollars, so you may imagine how much money the inventor of this thing has already earned. Besides, the contracts are made with airplanes for providing them with snuggies as the passengers find these odd blankets to be extremely convenient. Do you still think that this idea is stupid?

The history of skateboarding

July 19, 2012 § Leave a comment

A beautiful state California gave the world a lot of necessary things, including skateboarding.

Skateboarding was invented in the beginning of the 50ties, when the American surfers decided not to waste time during calm weather, but ride on the boards outside the ocean. They stuck suspension and wheels from the roller skates to a usual flat board and started passing around the streets- that was the first skate in the world named “Roller Derby”. The main aim for skaters that time was to stay on board and go round the obstacles. Teenagers mostly used the first analogues of a skate as scooters, but anyway a skate was on its way of becoming popular. Soon the first commercial team “Super Surfer Skateboard Team” and some time later the first magazine which was called “Skateboarder” appeared.

I bet you won’t dismiss me!

No one is perfect, especially at work. Daily routine, computers, faxes, documents, phone calls, meetings can drive mad any person. And we start doing odd things because of our tiredness or desire to have fun. Some workers bring strange things to the office, some people do shocking acts in public, some of us start breaking pens and pencils and some of us are constantly late.

And it’s very likelihood these small and innocent faults won’t be disregarded: we will have to render an account to our boss about it. I bet at least once in your life you had to write an explanatory note. For many people it became quite habitual. But some people are truly creative in making their notes. This is my observation of the funniest notes ever made.

  1. I was bringing and burning poplar seed tufts at my place of work during the whole week.

Wake-Up Call

July 11, 2012 § Leave a comment

I will never believe that there are people in the world who can easily wake up in the morning no matter what time is it, smile to the relatives or to the mirror and energetically start for work. Even if they exist they are not real. Even if they are real, I definitely do not belong to them. My morning is a constant struggle with an alarm which turns into awful screaming monster in my half-dreams and steals the most delicious moments of sleep from me. But recently some new devices have emerged and I hope that they will make the wake-up ordeal less miserable.

For example, there are programs developed for iPhone which are called Sleep Cycle and Smart Alarm Clock. For Androids there exists app Sleep-as-an- Droid. These apps observe the phases of your sleep. It is a well-known fact that it’s harder to wake up during the slow phase. So, these programs choose the right moment to wake you up when you are in the phase of fast sleep. They define this moment by observing the state of your activity – if you become restless, your phone notices it with the help of special sensor and turns the alarm on. The disadvantage of this method is that these apps are too sensitive, and if you do not sleep alone or have pets they can mistake your fast sleep activity for some other kind of movement on the bed.

The awfulness of female circumcision

July 9, 2012 § 1 Comment

A 22-year-old Marwat shakes her head, trying to get rid of terrible memories. Like most of the other Egyptian women, she also experienced all the awfulness of circumcision. According to some data, from 60 to 80% of African women are victims of this practice, which exists since the Pharaohs time. About 6 thousand girls undergo this operation in Africa every day. It is considered to be a part of traditional beliefs and acts of initiation of a girl into a woman. The operation is being done in extremely unsanitary conditions and without any painkillers.

One of the main aims of this manipulation is to reduce sexual desire and maintain a reproductive function, but it is proved that the effect of this operation is quite opposite – girls often become infertile, crippled and unhappy. In addition, according to scientists’ investigations, female circumcision has nothing to do with religion. That became a motto for their advertising campaign.
